Why do koreans love to enjoy korean style pancakes and drink korean rice wine on a rainy day?

Korean people just love to enjoy Korean style pancakes, a.k.a Jeons, and Korean Rice Wine, a.k.a Mageolli, on a rainy day. They say that the sales of Seafood Pancake (해물 파전) ingredients actually increases on rainy days. They have a few theories on why the love is everywhere in South Korea:

  • The sound of rain reminds people of the sound of making the pancakes.
  • When humidity increases, blood sugar level drops and people crave flour-based food that increases blood sugar level.
  • Koreans drink Korean Rice Wine usually paired with Korean style pancakes. The rice wine is low in alcohol content (6%) and rich in protein & vitamin B. It also has a sour kick to it. These characteristics make you feel like your thirst is quenched.
  • Both flour and Korean Rice Win contain lots of serotonin which elevates emotion and appetite. This may cheer people up when they feel down on rainy days.

All we know is rainy or not, Korean style pancakes are delicious all year round! ^^ Visit SURA Vancouver today and taste our delicious Korean pancakes!
